The Women's
Room
14' high x 24' long
x 8' wide.
In 2004 I had the opportunity to design and create the tile and fixtures
for a washroom at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
My goal was to make a stimulating and welcoming space for and about women.
The washroom utilizes such outward symbols of female as the color pink,
floral patterns, and women’s things (clothing and accessories) to
create a typically feminine space. At the same time, there are figures
and objects within the imagery depicted that challenge our cultural ideas
of the feminine and attempt to more truthfully portray women’s roles
and experiences.
